István Alfoldi
He began his career at the Computer Center of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), where he first worked on programming, later on information, and then on the design and development of data management systems. (His main tasks were: participation in the design and development of the new data processing system of the KSH; and in the construction and operation of the national IT network.) Between 1986 and 1990, he was the Development Director of the Computer Center.
After that, he was a project manager for three years at the Measurement and Computing Research Institute of the Central Physical Research Institute (KFKI MSZKI), and then at its ISYS Ltd., he participated, among other things, in the development of government IT and the planning and project management of the national IT system of the National Penitentiary Service (OBVH).
From 1993, he held an IT management position at BULL Hungary Ltd., and from 1995, at Kopint-Datorg Rt.
1997-2021 Managing Director of ALDA Consulting Bt.
Between 1997 and 2019, he was the executive director of the John Neumann Computer Science Society (NJSZT); he is credited with the introduction of the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) in Hungary and the management of several large IT projects (MÁV, ÁNTSZ). He was an active participant in the creation of the “Past of the Future” IT history exhibition in Szeged and the related book.
Member of the ECDL Board (1998-2001), which led the establishment of the international ECDL, and then member of the QAC Summit Committee (2001-2016), which has been committed to quality assurance from the beginning, among the three pillars of ECDL (social responsibility, quality assurance, manufacturer independence). – In 2009, he obtained the Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) certificate.
Important organizational memberships: Interdisciplinary Hungarian Health Care (IME) journal, Editorial Board, Advisory Board; Galaktika journal Advisory Board; Information Society Editorial Board.
Awards: Silver Medal of the Order of Merit for Labor (1985); Neumann Award (NJSZT, 2003); Gábor Dénes Memorial Medal (Gábor Dénes College, 2004); Award for Hungarian Informatics (Minister of Informatics and Communications, 2005); Medal for Szeged (General Assembly of Szeged, 2014); Multimedia in Education Lifetime Achievement Award (NJSZT, 2018); Jubilee Award (NJSZT, 2018); IT Business Legendary Award (IT Business Publishing Kft., 2019); Hungarian Silver Cross of Merit (President of the Republic, 2024); Lifetime Achievement Award (NJSZT, 2024).
