The Graphics Environment Manager (GEM) desktop is the Hungarian version of the GEM/3 software of the Digital Research company, which was localized and distributed in Hungary by the Software System Engineering Laboratory (SRL) of the Computer Science Coordination Institute (SZKI), and then by Computer Media.
The national version of the figures, drawn freehand or produced from predefined shapes using the application software package, was the first to appear in Hungary, ahead of the European market.
